Electronics Trainer

This lab was designed to provide science teachers and electronics students with a meaningful and exciting introductory course in electronics. No previous electronic knowledge is required. The EKI Science Electronics Lab stimulates students’ minds by using easy to understand experiments to increase their knowledge about electronics and explain how much electronics is a part of our world. Science project ideas will come as thirty experiments are built while working with integrated circuits, light emitting diodes (LED’s), photocells, semiconductors, etc. The lab was prepared for individuals of 10 years of age and up. This lab provides a basic understanding of analog DC and AC electronic circuits. In addition, oscilloscopes, digital volt meters, electronic trainer boards, and one resistance/inductance/capacitance (RLC) meter are included in the module. The main objectives of this lab include:

Elementary Science
Our new Let’s Go! Elementary Science book contains 34 fun and engaging experiments for students in grades 2-6. Activities investigate the topics of temperature, motion, force, magnetism, light, electricity, and pressure. Also included are lots of teacher tips, black-line masters, and clear illustrations to facilitate student understanding. Microsoft Word files are included on CD for easy editing.

Each Vernier Lab Book includes:

• Teacher Information section for each experiment with complete directions for setting up experiments, helpful hints, and sample graphs and data.

Laser
Metrologic's Laser Optics Lab contains more than 30 optical parts and accessories for demonstrating the principles of optics in a basic course of physics or physical science. With the lab components and instructions, students can:

• Measure the wavelength of light using the techniques of Young, Michelson and Lloyd
• Construct optical levers to detect and measure very small movements that are almost imperceptible to the human eye
• Test a lens for defects, collimate light and check vision
• Capture light in an arcing water jet or a glass fiber and investigate fiber optics phenomena
• View a hologram, observe interference rings and measure the diffraction patterns with a ruler
• Determine the index of refraction of a liquid or transparent solid by measuring the bend in the intense laser beam as it enters or leaves the material
• Investigate reflection, refraction and critical angle
• Study characteristics of light: wavelength, interference, diffraction and polarization
The lab also contains an optics bench system, consisting of metal component carriers that attach magnetically to a steel optical table, and a 68-page instruction booklet. Besides guiding the student through 35 exercises in optics, the booklet also explains theory of laser operation, how lasers are made, and laser safety.

Pneumatics / Hydraulics / Mechanics
TII's instructor-developed curriculum is flexible and features 25 to 30 hours of instruction in hydraulic components, applications and principles. The modular format allows self-teach/self-paced or group instruction. The Physical Properties section combines science and technology as in programs like the Principles of Technology
Hydraulics
Each lesson requires trainees to conduct an experiment in hydraulic technology using one or more of the 18 industrial-grade hydraulic components, including different types of valves, cylinders and measuring instruments. In the Application Laboratories section of the manual, trainees use the components to emulate industrial applications.
A complete power supply with a pump and fluid reservoir, together with a work surface and the components conveniently stored on a panel, provide everything needed to understand this fluid power technology. The pump is designed to operate at approximately 25 PSI for safety.
Pneumatics
Each lesson requires students to conduct an experiment in pneumatic technology using one or more of the 22 industrial-grade pneumatic components, including different types of valves, cylinders and measuring instruments. In the Application Laboratories section of the manual, students use the components to emulate industrial applications.
A complete power supply with compressor, together with a work surface and the components conveniently stored on a panel, provide everything needed to understand this fluid power technology. The compressor is limited to 60 PSI for classroom safety.
Mechanisms
Each lesson includes an experiment that requires trainees to construct and operate a simple machine or device for transmission of power, followed by a quiz to reinforce concepts and measure competency.
Among the 30 mechanical components are a variety of gears, pulleys and assemblies. In the Application Laboratories section of the manual, trainees use the components to design their own solutions to meet common problems that occur in industrial and everyday situations. Trainees will understand and visualize the basic elements found in simple to complex machines.

Laser Engraver
The procedure used in this module is a sequence of ten days. You should be able to complete each activity in one class period. If you do not finish an activity, continue it in the next period before you go on to the next one. Otherwise, you may miss information you will need later.
Finally, if you run into problems, read the instructions again, and talk it over with your lab partner before calling the instructor in your work area.

Robotics

The Lab-Volt Robot System, Model 5150, provides complete and affordable training in the programming and operation of industrial robots. Through the curriculum and hands-on experience with the Robot System, students learn to create automated work cells.

The precision-built, articulated arm of the Robot represents an important step in automation and handling.

A stepper motor, located in the base of the unit, provides horizontal rotation while five additional stepper motors, located in the shoulder, provide precision movements of the articulations and end effector.

The Robot has five axes of rotation plus a gripper and is able to use all joints simultaneously to perform a programmed move sequence.

Each articulation can be controlled and moved independently. Movements of the joints are accomplished by belts through a series of gears, while the gripper mechanism is activated by cables and belt-driven pulleys.

Vertical Mill
The 5400 CNC Mill is a state-of-the-art machining system that provides training in computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and computer-numerically controlled (CNC) milling. The 5400 CNC Mill curriculum, industry standard software, and high-precision equipment enable course planning for beginning to advanced levels of CAD, CAM, and CNC operations. Training on the 5400 CNC Mill helps students gain skills that are transferable to jobs in manufacturing.
The 5400 CNC Mill features an on-board microprocessor that allows the operator to download a part program directly to the mill, thereby eliminating the need for a dedicated computer for operation. The 5400 CNC Mill also supports low voltage communications with robotic units and devices to create automated work cells ideal for flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) and computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). The Printer
The Dimension BST incorporates the same technology as the Dimension SST (Soluble Support technology) and therefore produces the same high-quality ABS and ABSplus models. The difference is that the Dimension BST features a manual support removal process where the designer removes the model from the system and breaks the support away by hand.
The Dimension BST Printers are network compatible and produce durable working models from ABS and ABSplus with the click of a button.
Once the model is printed, simply remove the model from the printer, peel away the supports and begin using the functional model.

Demonstrate on a tabletop scale the conversion of energy from wind to electricity. The wind power plant generator (turbine) can be setup with different blade configurations, and the source of airflow is adjustable. AE 102 Hydrogen - Fuel Cell Trainer
Perform classroom demonstrations and oversee student experiments using an electrolyser and fuel cell. All required
electronics and metering are included together with a rugged base plate. All parts are stored in a custom travel case.
The supplied electrolyzer can be operated with either the AE 101 Solar Energy Trainer or AE 103 Wind Energy
Trainer; or use both to demonstrate a hybrid alternative energy system.
